God’s hand reaching down to rescue someone — He’s in the midst

WE CANNOT RUN AWAY FROM GOD

Let Us Pray

Father God, when we run from You, still Your mercy pursues us. Lead us back to You daily. In Jesus’ name, amen.

Introduction

He’s in the midst even when we fail, when we run and always leading us back to grace.  That’s the comfort we cling to when everything seems distant or uncertain. When we feel overwhelmed or even rebellious, we can take heart in knowing that He’s in the midst of our lives, guiding and holding us fast.

He’s in the Midst of Our Wandering

“If I take the wings of the morning and dwell in the uttermost parts of the sea, even there your hand shall lead me, and your right hand shall hold me.” (Psalm 139:9-10)

God is not limited by geography. The Psalmist reminds us that even in the furthest corners of the earth, we are never beyond God’s reach. His presence follows, surrounds, and supports us wherever we go. He’s in the midst—even when we try to flee.

Jonah is a powerful example. God told him to go to Nineveh. Instead, Jonah took off for Tarshish, about 2,500 miles in the opposite direction. As Jonah ran, he boarded a ship and tried to vanish. But God met him on the sea and beneath the waves. In the depths, with his life slipping away, Jonah encountered grace. God sent a great fish—not for punishment, but for preservation. God stayed in the midst of Jonah’s rebellion to bring him back into His will.

Peter also knew the sting of failure. He denied Jesus three times. Still, Jesus restored him tenderly by the Sea of Galilee, reaffirming his calling. In both stories, the message is clear: God doesn’t abandon us in failure or distance. Rather, He lovingly pursues and redeems us.

This is how God operates with us. When we are adopted into Christ’s family, we are His. We may stumble, we may even deny Him, but He is faithful. He’s in the midst—ready to lead, ready to restore.

So today, don’t run away. Run toward God. As you do, trust that His hand is not far from you—it is holding you tightly.
