Introduction
Discover the depth of the Called Out of Egypt Devotion as it intertwines old prophecies with the story of Jesus. “When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called My son.” — Hosea 11:1
This prophecy, spoken by Hosea in the eighth century B.C., looked backward and forward at the same time—back to God delivering Israel from Egypt and forward to God delivering the world through His Son. Matthew, under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit, reveals this clearly: “So was fulfilled what the Lord had said through the prophet: ‘Out of Egypt I called my son’” (Matthew 2:15).
When Herod sought to destroy Jesus, God intervened. Joseph was warned in a dream to flee to Egypt, and there the Lord preserved the life of His Son until the danger had passed. The God who once led Israel, His “son,” out of captivity now led His true and eternal Son, Jesus, safely out of Egypt to accomplish salvation for all. Both stories echo the heartbeat of a Father who rescues, protects, and leads His people through every darkness.

“God is too good to be unkind, and He is too wise to be mistaken. And when we cannot trace His hand, we must trust His heart.” — Charles Spurgeon
Reflection
As we move through Advent, we remember that God’s deliverance is never accidental. Nothing about the birth of Jesus was random. Every movement, every location, every detail fulfilled ancient promises spoken centuries beforehand. His flight to Egypt and His return were not detours—they were divine appointments that revealed God’s sovereignty and steadfast love.
Just as God once led Israel from slavery into freedom, He now calls each of us out of our own “Egypts”—places of bondage, fear, confusion, and sin. Advent reminds us that the God who guided His Son through the night still guides us today. He leads us from fear to peace, from despair to hope, and from darkness to His marvelous light.
Isaiah declared, “The people walking in darkness have seen a great light” (Isaiah 9:2). That light is Christ—the Deliverer who steps into our brokenness and reaches down His hand to lift us up. The same God who protected Jesus in Egypt protects you. The same God who called His Son out of danger calls you into His grace, His presence, and His everlasting peace.
During this Advent season, pause and remember: God has always been in the business of calling His children out of darkness. And He still is.
Life Application
Where is your “Egypt” today? What fear, sin, or burden keeps you bound? Just as God reached down His hand for Israel and for His Son, Jesus now reaches down His hand for you. Advent is an invitation not merely to remember Christ’s coming but to respond to His call—to step out of darkness and into His glorious light.
This week, take time to pray intentionally about the places where you need God’s deliverance. Reflect on His faithfulness in Scripture. And thank Him that no darkness is too deep for His saving hand.
Closing Prayer
Lord, thank You for fulfilling Your promises through Jesus. Just as You guided Him safely out of Egypt, lead us out of our own places of fear and bondage into Your marvelous light. Reach down Your hand once again, as You did in ancient days, and lift us into Your peace. Prepare our hearts this Advent to receive the hope only Christ brings. Amen.

Prophesies
We approach Advent this year by focusing on the many prophecies fulfilled by the life of Jesus. The odds of one man fulfilling just eight prophecies is 1 in 100,000,000,000,000,000—one in one hundred quadrillion. And yet Jesus fulfilled over 300. He is not just a man. He is God.
